LEBOMBO HIKING TRAIL in the Transfrontier Park in Mozambique

an unforgettable wilderness hiking experience!

ROUTE

The Lebombo hiking trail is set in the Transfrontier Park in Mozambique, leading you through beautiful riverine and open bushveld with the imposing Lebombo Mountains as a backdrop. The trail starts just south of the Giriyondo Border Post (between Kruger National Park and Parque Nacional do Limpopo) and sets off in a southerly direction towards Machampane Wilderness Camp.

The trail group consists of no more than 8 people and is lead by experienced and armed guides. We hike about 10 to 15km per day and overnight en-route in this pristine wilderness area. While the campsites are in fixed positions, the guide will vary the daily route in order to locate as much game as possible and experience this beautiful area to the fullest. The trail traverses a sanctuary area that has been re-stocked with game over the past few years in a joint programme with Kruger National Park and you have every prospect of encountering a wide array of wildlife.

The trail is fairly rugged and therefore a reasonable level of fitness is essential.

TWO OPTIONS

1. Self-sufficient Back Pack Trail

The Lebombo hiking trail can be booked as a rugged and adventurous back pack trail, whereby you carry your own back pack, food, drinks, clothing and sleeping bag.

2. Portered & Catered Option

You can however also choose a 'portered and catered' option. You only carry a day pack, while your luggage as well as  your sleeping bag gets transported for you to the next camp site. A camp attendant prepares the meals, allowing you to relax after an exciting day of hiking!

THE CAMPSITES

Each night offers its own unique experience as you overnight in a different campsite each night, carefully chosen to fully embrace the natural surroundings of the fauna and flora. Tents with mattresses are being set up for you every day at the campsites. Campsites provide basic ablution facilities, water for cooking and washing as well as firewood. Gather around the fire to prepare your evening meal and then head off to the shelter of your 2 man-tent, to be lulled to sleep by the sounds of the night.
